CONVERSATION WITH Aqualoop
talks: Marta Rauk
The second edition of Aerosol Nights Blow we have Aqualoop talked into an interview, that Igor Chołdę. Aqualoop is a versatile artist, on its website describes itself as a philosopher, artist, illustrator, artist, street artowy, musician, creative director, VJ, motion graphic designer. We in the conversation focused on the business street arts.
figured on its website a number of classes, which take the time. Are you a musician or an artist more artowym street? However, you may ask this question: what do you do?
Every day I deal with animation, I'm a motion graphic designer. He works in post production studio, sometimes I think of something: the script, setting, characters. I am a musician for 13 years. Once it was my job, then I started working in television and music turned into a hobby area. For some time I'm associated with the world of street art. Actually, for my membership to the world of street art found when painted on their first or second wall. Previously, my style was associated mainly with graphics and illustrations (often used in the posters of my teams), and animations, which I did. Following the extension of his artistic work on the walls, assigned me to the world of street art. People began to call, there is interest in my line, and to paint the walls began to arrive. My work defies unequivocal classification - street art, live paintingu, illustration, design and graphics.
anyway growing interest in your work further gives you the same pleasure as at the beginning?
Absolutely. My passions and experiences intermingle and evolve as new concepts and ideas. I like to combine media and technology, traditional art with new technologies. Too little of one life to deal with all this. Most finish one project being a foot in the next.
When I watched your page, it turned out that most work is in a confined space. Will you make it out?
At the moment the only thing painted on the outside is dry tree. More work will come this year, are simply planned to share, where I painted. I must admit that I paint only legal things. Maybe I'm too old to run somewhere with the spray, I prefer to work alone. Street Art in Poland is still all the time associated with the location, street - the street. To the west is a very broad term. To this trend are illustrators or generally people who break down the strict and doniosłemu the term "Art". They are designers, illustrators, designers, toys, etc.. An example would be Secret Wars - duel artowy street, in which unrelated individuals have been involved strictly with painting on the street.
make or abroad, now you are going to Casablanca. Do you see the differences between our Polish Artem street, and "foreign"?
Our street art is sad.
Sad?
Yes, it is steeped in existential concern, dusted some sadness. I miss its lightness and serenity. Skipping the color, which is often monochromatic and dark, is more about the message of this work. This is not a flaw, it's just specific. They are also, of course, exceptions. I do not fully I feel the aesthetics. My works are closer ekspresjom color on the walls of Barcelona.
Coloured ekspresjom? Is it always in your work appears in color? What are your work?
I also work in black and white monochrome. However, it seems to me that my graphics are fun, light. I am far from the legacy of Mr. Beksinski, perhaps because it appeals to me more illustration than painting. He paints in the places where people: work, eat and rest. I am trying to make my dash to these places, without imposing too much up.
Where do these your works? Planning a them before?
Varies. Mostly I have no plan. People who know me know that I never have a project that I always do I create spontaneously. In my work I have to confront the scenarios, with briefami, with things that are predetermined, which must have some form, undergo a process of client acceptance, and so on. Thus in my artistic escape from sketches, preliminary projects, etc.. Often, that by creating, painting or drawing I do not do this alone. That means someone is present in the room, someone talks to me sometimes they are even several thousand crowds.
I saw that often someone helps you in painting.
Yes, this is usually my girlfriend, or someone who will be there and is pretty sober to hold a brush [laugh-ed.]. In fact, most girls go. Women are much more accurate, approach it with greater reverence. My lines and shapes require a lot of concentration, accuracy and care.
And talking to people who can help you "do not, here or colored, paint over here?"
Yes, yes. I trace this crosses a specified color. Take off from them the burden of choice.
will soon move to Casablanca, tell me more? Is this trip artowy street or business?
say: beautiful holiday - artowy street. I paint a building there, maybe two. I got the invitation, but I do not know yet exactly what will come of this. It is on the way: come, see how you want to paint. But this also involves some problems, mainly related to the availability of materials. In any case I take part of his equipment with him. But I hope you have a rest there, too.
The hardware that is? What are you working?
It is constantly changing. At the beginning I created markers, now I use a lot of inks, acrylics and brushes, of course. Still, I like markers, but more and more enter the brushes.
We are also live paintingiem. You can tell something more? Since when do you do this, what's it all about?
I deal with this since last year. It consists in the fact that the paint during an event, usually at a party, often during the concert. Actually, I deal with two types of live painting. One where a party, the game dj, people walk around, ask questions or not, and I paint and do not hurry. The second is, in principle, speedpainting - that is, painting on time. For example - during the concert I have exactly one hour, an hour with a hook on the painting, seized the surface. Usually this is the plate area 2 x 4 meters and is a temporary short circuit. You have to earn. These are some different situations.
What do you prefer? Such situations or loose but the pace?
Initially I dealt with things quickly and is constantly in the check and I like it. In other works if brain, create the opposite way - first painting, then I think. Rather, there is no room for mistakes. There are a lot of restrictions - for example, you can not go and see work from a distance. Often there is no return to the place where it began - because someone took the ladder, or is there a crowd of people. At work, where I have a lot of time, it appears that this time I need more and more. Practically, there comes more and more colors, more details and ideas. I like to experiment, play and explore. This is a kind of trance where one image refers to the next. This a bit like writing a story or a fairy tale. Often, when describing my work I use the nomenclature reserved for the work of narrative. I have an idea for a novel but I have no idea how it will end
Did you take part in the first auction in Poland organized street art. Do you think this item is some evidence that the Polish street art begins to be regarded as this abroad?
certainly gave the popularity of the theme of Banksy and his film. It's nice that these things happen and that this item was not self-appointed, but in a professional and well prepared listing and exhibition. The first Polish auction of street art has shown the diversity of artistic styles - it was just an interesting event.
would you call it, what are you doing? Is it graffiti, murals, or ...?
Graffiti is probably not. Not much unless I have to do with graffiti. The more I focus on projects around the characters and figures. Artybishops-mate - a band where I play - characterize my style as a mixture of Cartoon Network and Witkiewicz. And it is somewhat accurate. In describing my work, often I use the term "infection". Infects the surfaces walls, my line items. I did not think of it as a program of artistic, but the date very quickly adopted and began to use the terms "medical" in describing my actions.
course, probably everyone you ask about it. Location Aqualoop?
There are several sources of the name. When I was little, I saw a flower shop in a small fountain gushing water. It was a device, where the water circulates in a closed circuit. For a child it was an amazing discovery. The question has arisen as there may be a source, which itself self powered, perpetual motion, and even a deus ex machina! My father quickly explained to me that there is some pump, while the left remained a first impression. For me it was almost a magical experience. After many years I had composed music that is przeorganizowywał and on this occasion were invented different names, one of them was just Aqualoop. The composition is not maintained. From what I remember we played a concert. But a source Aqualoopy was primarily in the fountain. It's like living matter in Aristotle.
What were your beginnings of painting?
started already in high school. I painted in the margins, the volumes, which were less and less space for notes. My teachers liked the drawings, but not including the visual arts. Then, once I started playing, there was a need to create posters and I created them in this their strange style that has evolved, but was always firmly dziabnięty Picasso. And so it continues until now, all the time to develop, I have new ideas for themselves.
gone in this direction. Let's say at the Academy, you learn that?
No, absolutely! Never! I am a pretty defiant. In elementary school we all have lessons music. I knew how to take music lessons, after eight years, to play the flute sound "sol" (these are only 3 holes at the top and a bottom). "Sleep, that little Jesus," exceeded my abilities, so I was a few years later, a professional musician with art I was not much easier. So far I have before my eyes a picture from high school. I paint a cow, a meadow and a rainbow. The teacher wanted me to put three of them - for the mere fact that it is not brought blank sheet. Classroom, amused view of smiling and happy cows on my card - much insisted on five. On fine arts better describe the result was that the theoretical "rozkminianie" works of painting than practical. As for the ASP is not really felt the train in that direction. I did not want to draw apples models. I wanted to draw your stuff. Do not suspected that it develops so that my work will like it and that there would be on the art market. And as for the training is finished - the philosophy at the UW and the Lodz Film School.
And it has been associated with motion graphic design?
Not really. Film School finished the production. For the design was a long way to go. First, I worked w telewizji.
Strasznie dużo tych zainteresowań, to mnie fascynuje. Jak Ty to łączysz?
Sam nie wiem jak to ogarniam. Są to moje pasje. Kiedy kończę pracę, idę na próbę albo gram koncert albo maluje ścianę, obraz. Często moje aktywności przeplatają się. Odkryłem, że In my work appears in many of these same places, just as if I am acting in different scenes. Mainly these are the spaces of the city - clubs, galleries and pubs. As the music played at these sites, then display them in your animations as a vj, and now I paint the walls in these places or have a live painter. What's interesting - I'm not completely a club person. If you can spend your free time is certainly not in the club.
